Como um museu hospedando uma das mais importantes coleções de pintura britânica de qualquer lugar do continente, a Neue Pinakothek lança os holofotes sobre a arte Inglêsa com a exposição George Stubbs (1724-1806), Ciência na Arte.

As a museum holding one of most important collections of British painting anywhere on the continent, the Neue Pinakothek casts the spotlight on English art with the exhibition George Stubbs (1724-1806), Science into Art.

Isto marca a primeira grande mostra de obras do artista em um museu europeu fora da Grã-Bretanha. Stubbs conseguiu seu alto grau de fama através de seus retratos realistas de cavalos e animais exóticos, que são baseados em uma observação precisa da natureza.

This marks the first ever major showing of the artist’s works in a European museum outside of Great Britain. Stubbs achieved his high degree of fame through his realistic portraits of horses and exotic animals, which are based on a precise observation of nature.

Like few other artists, he managed to forge empirical research and aesthetics into a new synthesis in his paintings.

The exhibition contains some 30 paintings which together outline the full spectrum of George Stubbs’s artistic output.

The list of lenders for the Munich show includes some of the most important collections and museums in the United Kingdom, such as the Royal Collection, the National Gallery and Tate Britain in London.

Estas obras têm permanecido na posse dos comissários dos descendentes originais até hoje e incluem as telas pintadas por Stubbs para Lord Rockingham e o duque de Rutland.

These works have remained in the possession of the descendants of the original commissioners up to today and include the canvases Stubbs painted for Lord Rockingham and the Duke of Rutland.

As an exceptional printmaker who experimented with various etching techniques, George Stubbs also created a small yet remarkable oeuvre of engravings consisting primarily of depictions of exotic fauna. Prints of these are extremely rare, and will be on loan from the British Museum
