A exposição Matisse no Centro Pompidou oferece assim um percurso em torno de umas sessenta obras, declinadas em pares ou conjuntos. Dos métodos pontilhistas que Matisse tenta em1904 (Luxe, Calme et Volupté) aos ambiciosos papeis cortados da década de 1950 (Blue Nude, 1952) passando por um conjunto de desenhos de Temas e Variações, que constituem uma culminação do processo conceitual, os períodos principais e mais importantes do artista serão representados em um percurso cronológico (1899-1952).
