Destroyed yet preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79, Pompeii and its neighboring cities provide a vivid glimpse into the daily lives of ancient Romans. Exhibitions about the archaeology of Pompeii have been numerous and popular but never before has an exhibition explored the influence of this ancient disaster on the modern imagination.
