Piero della Francesca in America

Reverenciado em seu próprio tempo como um "monarca" da pintura, Piero della Francesca (1411/13-1492) é reconhecido hoje como uma figura fundadora do Renascimento italiano. De 12 de fevereiro de 2013 a 19 de maio de 2013, a Frick Collection vai apresentar a primeira exposição monográfica nos Estados Unidos dedicada ao artista.

Revered in his own time as a “monarch” of painting, Piero della Francesca (1411/13–1492) is acknowledged today as a founding figure of the Italian Renaissance. From February 12, 2013 to May 19, 2013, the Frick Collection will present the first monographic exhibition in the United States dedicated to the artist.

Sete peças, incluindo seis painéis do retábulo de Santo Agostinho (muitas partes desta obra-prima nunca reunidas) ladeadas pela Virgem e criança entronizada com quatro anjos, seu retábulo apenas intacto pode ser encontrado nos Estados Unidos.

Seven exhibits, including six panels from the altarpiece of St. Augustine (as many pieces of this masterpiece ever recomposed) flanked by the Virgin and child enthroned with four angels, his only altarpiece intact can be found in United States.

Piero della Francesca criou sete pinturas para serem exibidas em sua cidade natal: Borgo Sansepolcro (Arezzo), em particular, para a sua produção foi fundamental o retábulo de Santo Agostinho (1454-1469), gigante políptico que dominou o altar da Igreja de Santo Agostinho. Uma das maiores figuras inteiras de Santo Agostinho, o Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, em Lisboa, vai debutar nos Estados Unidos, nesta ocasião, e vai se reunir pela primeira vez com seu companheiro, São João Evangelista do Frick, como com todos os os painéis menores sobreviventes que compõem o retábulo (Santa Apolônia da Galeria Nacional, um frade e uma freira agostiniana da Frick e a crucificação).

Piero della Francesca created seven paintings to be exhibited on his hometown: Borgo Sansepolcro (Arezzo), in particular, was fundamental in his production the altarpiece of Saint Augustine (1454-1469), giant polyptych that dominated the altar of the Augustinian Church. One of the largest whole figures of St Augustine, the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga in Lisbon, will debut in America on this occasion and will be reunited for the first time with his companion, St. John the Evangelist of the Frick; as with all the smaller surviving panels that made up the altarpiece (Santa Apollonia from the National Gallery, a friar and an Augustinian nun of the Frick and the crucifixion).

Completando o grupo,  a Virgem no trono com o filho e quatro anjos do Sterling e Francine Clark Art Institute de Williamstown, Massachusetts um dos mais importantes do Renascimento funciona já chegou na América, .

Rounding out the group is one of the most important Renaissance works ever arrived in America, the Virgin enthroned with the child and four angels of the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
