Uma Obsessão Vitoriana: A coleção Pérez Simón  tem início no Leighton House Museum na sexta-feira 14 de Novembro. Ela apresenta obras de arte vitoriana raramente vistas pertencentes ao colecionador mexicano Juan Antonio Pérez Simón. Até o 29 de março de 2015 visitantes da Leighton House Museum poderão ver 52 pinturas excepcionais da maior coleção de arte privada Vitoriana fora da Grã Bretanha, mostrada pela primeira vez no Reino Unido - junto de seis obras de Frederic, Lord Leighton, quatro das quais terão de voltar para a casa em que foram pintadas.

A Victorian Obsession: The Pérez Simón Collection opened at Leighton House Museum on Friday 14 November. It presents rarely seen masterpieces of Victorian art belonging to the Mexican collector Juan Antonio Pérez Simón. Until the 29 March 2015 visitors to Leighton House Museum can experience 52 exceptional paintings from the largest Victorian private art collection outside Great Britain, shown for the first time in the UK - alongside six works by Frederic, Lord Leighton, four of which will be returning to the house in which they were painted.

Imagens excepcionais de Albert Moore, John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones, John William Waterhouse, Edward Poynter, John Strudwick e John William Godward também são exibidas no ambiente íntimo e esplêndido de Leighton House.  Como presidente da Royal Academy, Leighton e sua  extraordinária casa estúdio estiveram no centro do mundo da tardia arte vitoriana. Os seus concertos anuais e recepções se tornaram comuns do calendário social artística. Estes artistas conheciam tanto a casa como a própria coleção de Leighton que continha várias imagens deles, incluindo um estudo de nu de Albert Moore, que retorna ao Leighton House pela primeira vez desde 1896 como parte da exposição.

Outstanding pictures by Albert Moore, John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones, John William Waterhouse, Edward Poynter, John Strudwick and John William Godward are also displayed in the intimate and splendid environment of Leighton House.  As President of the Royal Academy, Leighton and his extraordinary studio-house were at the centre of the late Victorian art world. His annual concerts and receptions became fixtures of the artistic social calendar. These artists knew the house well and Leighton’s own collection contained pictures by several of them, including a nude study by Albert Moore that returns to Leighton House for the first time since 1896 as part of the exhibition.

The exhibition has been shown at the Jacquemart-André Museum in Paris, the Chiostro del Bramante in Rome and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid to great acclaim. The exhibition has been curated by Daniel Robbins, Senior Curator at Leighton House Museum and Véronique Gerard Powell who has worked extensively on the Pérez Simón Collection.

With the exception of Leighton’s painting studio, the permanent collection has been cleared from Leighton House and the exhibition hung throughout the historic interiors.  Leighton’s extraordinary decorative schemes provide a uniquely appropriate and authentic setting for the pictures belonging to Juan Antonio Pérez Simón, making the exhibition an unmissable event and an unforgettable one-off aesthetic experience.

Esta exposição apresenta mais de 150 peças de jóias do 17º  ao longo do século 19, principalmente do sul da Índia. "Quando o Ouro Floresce" refere-se a forte preferência ao ouro na joalheria Sul Indiana (a joalheria nortr indiana, por outro lado, é conhecida principalmente pwlo uso de pedras preciosas e semipreciosas) e explora o significado da ornamentação e adorno na cultura indiana.

This exhibition presents more than 150 pieces of jewelry from the 17th through 19th centuries, primarily from South India. "When Gold Blossoms" refers to the strong preference for gold in South Indian jewelry (North Indian jewelry, on the other hand, is known primarily for the use of precious and semiprecious stones) and explores the significance of ornamentation and adornment in Indian culture.
